Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference President Farooq Abdullah Friday said that restoring autonomy is the only way to expect any forward movement on the Kashmir issue.
“Before further erosion of democracy in state, one should immediately start a dialogue and it should be meaningful. It has to have compulsion on centre of restoring our autonomy. Unless they restore autonomy, to expect any forward movement from people is impossible,” he said.
On Wednesday, Abdullah said, “Autonomy is the only way ahead to address the political and developmental deficit of all the regions of Jammu and Kashmir. It will secure the secular character of our state and strengthen the bonds of amity and brotherhood.”
Abdullah advocated for an Ireland-type settlement model to resolve the Kashmir issue.
