Gahind Gunfight: Police Version

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday issued following statement regarding Gahind gunfight saying that on a credible input a cordon and search operation was launched at Gahind area in district Shopian, by Police and other forces.

A police spokesperson in a statement said that during searches, militants fired upon the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter.

“In the ensuing encounter, 02 militants were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. Their identities and affiliations are being ascertained,” he said.

“Incriminating material including arms and ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter. Police has registered a case,” he added.

“Pertinently with the efforts of Police and security forces, it was a clean operation. No collateral damage happened during the encounter,” said the spokesman.

“Citizens are requested not to venture inside encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any,” said police spokesman in a statement.
