Srinagar: Protests were held in north Kashmir areas on Friday demanding severe punishment to the culprit who allegedly raped a three year old girl in Sumbal area of Bandipora.
Reports said that locals took to streets in Sumbal, Chenabal and other areas of north Kashmir demanding stern action against the rapist.
“The one who raped the girl is above 25 years old and he should be hanged,” a protester said.
The protesters while raising slogans demanded stern punishment against the culprit, “Since governor heads the state right now. We appeal to him that severe punishment be given to the rapist, so that our mothers and sisters feel safe.” Another local said.
Locals allege that some people are trying to shield the culprit by showing him a minor, “He is not a minor, but some people are trying to shield the rapist.” A local alleged.
On Wednesday a three year old girl in Bandipora was allegedly raped by a local boy at village.
According to reports the incident took place at Malikpora, Trehgam area of Sumbal in Bandipora district.
Police in its FIR had said that the accused was 20 years old.
Acting on complaint of the victim’s family, police arrested the accused, identified as Tahir Ahmad Mir (20), son of Abdul Rehman Mir resident of Malikpora, Trehgam, Sumbal.
