2 firemen killed in fire fighting operation in Jammu

Srinagar, Feb 12 :  Two firemen were killed and six others injured when a three-storey building collapsed early on Wednesday in Golepulli area of TallabTillo,  in   Jammu city when fire department personnel were trying to douse the flames in the three storey building.

Reports reaching to Kashmir News Service said that three firemen were trapped in a building and two of them died while as another firemen was trapped in the building for several time after hard work he was rescued said an official.

An official of fire and emergency said that soon after the incident, a team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) also joined the ongoing rescue operation.


The officer has identified as deceased as  fire-fighters, Vimal Kumar Raina and Rattan Chand, whose bodies were retrieved, while search is going on for the third personnel who was identified as Mohammad Aslam.


He said the fire department rushed fire fighters after receiving a distress call at 4.48 am and were making efforts to douze the flames collapsed at 5.30 am.


“It is believed that none of the civilians were trapped under the debris. We have rescued four civilians in the morning while two of our personnel suffered injuries. All the rescued persons were evacuated and taken to a hospital,” official said.
He said while one of the firemen is being treated for serious burn injuries, the other is undergoing treatment for head injuries.


Soon after the building collapsed, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) along with police parties were rushed to the spot and a rescue operation was launched, he said (KNS).
