Massive blaze engulfs forest area in Sopore

Srinagar, Apr 05 (KINS) :A massive blaze engulfed the forest area of Compartment No 23 in Zaloora Village in Harwan Block Kandi Sopore. While the fire continues to spread in the forest area, fire fighting operations are underway.


According to locals, the fire broke out suddenly this evening and was brought under control by joint teams of Forest officials.


However, this is the first time that a massive fire has broke out in the forest of this area, which connects Sopore and Kupwara range.
DFO Kamraj Division Zahid Mughal told KINS that only surface fire has taken place in Compartment No 23 of Zaloora Village without causing any damage to the trees.


“As soon as the information was received the Joint teams of forest officials,Forest Protection Force  and Social forestry moved to the spot and are trying to control the fire.Most of the fire has been doused and the officials are keeping a watch so that it doesn’t involve other areas” Mughal added.(KINS)
