Gunfight rages in Shopian village

A gunfight broke out in South Kashmir’s Shopian village between militants and forces late this evening.

Reports reaching said that a joint team of army’s 55RR, SOG and CRPF launched cordon and search operation in Melhpora area of Shopian after having credible input about presence of some militants in the area.

As the joint team of forces approached the suspected house the hiding militants fired upon searching party triggering an encounter.

As per reports two militants are believed to be trapped.

A police officer also confirmed to Kashmir Indepth and said contact has been established with hiding militants and firing from both sides is on.

Till this report was filed intermittent firing was going on.
