Reconsider FIR against female photojournalist: Monga to authorities

Srinagar, April 21 (KINS): Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Vice President and MLC G N Monga today urged the authorities to reconsider FIR registered against an independent female photo journalist from Kashmir under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

In a statement issued to news agency KINS here he said: “The charges against the female journalist must be dropped as such harsh steps by the police undermine freedom of expression”.

“The State has an extra responsibility to exercise restraint on use of its powers. Journalism in Kashmir had never been easy but since last August reports are coming that journalists are being called to police stations in Kashmir which is highly unfortunate,” Monga said.
