Srinagar, Aug 29 (KINS): Three militants and one Army man were killed in a gunfight in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

In less than 12 hours, seven militants have been killed in two gunfights in south Kashmir.

Police said that the latest gunfight broke out at Zadoora in Pulwama when joint teams of police, Army and CRPF cordoned off the area following an input about the militants’ presence.

“As the cordon was being laid, the hiding militants opened fire on the forces critically wounding a soldier of Rashtriya Rifles. The soldier was shifted to a medical facility and later succumbed to his injuries. In the gunfight that followed three militants were killed,” an official said.

Srinagar-based defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia confirmed the killing of a soldier and three militants.

“One AK rifle and two pistols were seized from the encounter site,” he said.
The slain soldier has been identified as 23-year-old Sepoy Prashant Sharma, a resident of Khanjapur, Muzaffarnagar, in Uttar Pradesh.
The three local militants killed in the gunfight were affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen. They have been identified by police as Adil Hafiz, Arshid Ahmad Dar and Rouf Ahmad Mir, all residents of Pulwama.

On Friday, four militants of Al Badr, including a commander, were killed in a gunfight at Kiloora in Shopian district.
They were identified as policemen-turned-militant Shakoor Parray, who was Al Badr district commander; Suhail Bhat, Zubair Nengroo and Shakir-ul-Jabbar.(KINS)
