Training program in mushroom cultivation held for mining affected areas

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 18: A daylong training program for skill development in mushroom cultivation for mining affected areas was held at Zewan  Bala of district Srinagar today.

The program was organised by Mushroom Development Office Srinagar under Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojana (PMKKKY) wherein educated unemployed youth and other interested persons are given training regarding skill development in mushroom cultivation.

The training program was inaugurated by Chief Agriculture Officer Srinagar, Mohammad Younis Chowdhary.

While highlighting the importance of the training program, the Chief Agriculture Officer said the main objective of the program is to educate the inhabitants of the mining affected areas about the long term sustainable livelihood.

He said the department is devising a composite strategy for the development and promotion of Mushroom Sector for uplifting the socio economic status in the mining areas.

Chowdhary called upon the mushroom scientists and concerned officers to devise a future strategy which could be inclusive, composite and multidimensional and should meet all the requirements of the district in terms of jobs and entrepreneurship.

He said that complete guidance will be provided to the participants so that they can develop their mushroom units and after that, visits by the field functionaries and experts should be ensured that would help their units to thrive on scientific lines.

Among others, District Agriculture Officer, Mushroom Development Officer, SDAO, scientists, experts and other officers of the district were present on the occasion.
