ANANTNAG, JULY 17:
To prevent escalation of rates and safeguard interests of consumers, the special teams of District Administration Anantnag have intensified market checking drives across the district, here.
The drives are being conducted for ensuring availability and sale of quality goods and essential items like poultry, vegetables, etc besides curbing the illegal practices of hoarding and profiteering.
Pertinently, the Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Piyush Singla had recently constituted tehsilwile teams/squads headed by respective tehsildars and comprising of officials of police, municipalities, food, etc for conducting regular market checking in the district.
On Thursday, the teams conducted intensive market checking in Pahalgam, Dooru and other areas and inspected various markets within their jurisdiction. Fines were imposed on erring shopkeepers for failing to maintain quality of food items and display rate lists of essential commodities, selling expiry and substandard products besides indulging in illegal practices of profiteering and sale of underweight products. Rotten vegetables and food items were destroyed on spot and the sellers were persuaded not to resort to such unlawful business activities in future.
During the drives, the officials awared the public about government notified rates and advised them to report instances of malafide business behaviour to the authorities.
The food safety department have also seized five business units here in Anantnag town following the violation of norms.
However, the officials have advised the bakery shop and meet shop owners to make cleaness in their shops and to avoid selling on expensive rates.
