Unit will provide cocoon consumption market to 10 K families
Srinagar, Aug 05 (KINS): The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha Thursday inaugurated the Modernised and Upgraded Government Silk Weaving Factory Rajbagh with a project cost of Rs.23.54 crores under the World Bank Funded Jhelum Tawi Flood Recovery Project.
According to government press note available with news agency KINS,Under the upgradation plan a new factory with state of art preparatory and weaving machinery has been installed.
Advisor to Lt.Governor Baseer Ahmad Khan , Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta, Principal Secretary Industries and Commerce Ranjan Prakash Thakur, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir P K Pole CEO ERA Abid Shah , IGP Kashmir , DC Srinagar and other senior officers were also present on the occasion.
On this occasion LG was informed that the modernised unit would provide a cocoon consumption market to approx. 10000 families of cocoon growers/ farmers of Kashmir Division . In absence of such a big consumption centre for local cocoons the farmers were being exploited by middle men and major quantities of cocoon would get exported outside to other parts of the country without any value addition.
The Government Silk Weaving Factory Rajbagh will now be capable of producing 4,50,000 meters of silk fabric per annum(3 shift basis) which will create a viable economic cycle and employment opportunities both directly and indirectly.
On this occasion a detailed presentation on the second phase of conservation/restoration of the Rajbagh Silk Factory as a social cultural and tourist hub related to the Silk Industry was also given
Further artisans associated with various handicrafts handloom clusters being developed under the World Bank Funded JTFRP also displayed new products. It was informed that registered producer companies have been created in the said clusters with the aim to promote self-sustainability .
On this occasion the Hon’ble LG also inaugurated nine logos of various crafts developed by Handicrafts & Handloom Department for promotion and labelling of these crafts.(KINS)
