BSF convoy attacked by militants on Srinagar-Jammu highway, encounter  underway

Srinagar, Aug 12 (KINS ) An encounter broke out after militants attacked a Border Security Force (BSF) convoy on Srinagar-Jammu national highway in south Kashmir district of Kulgam.
Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said that a group of militants fired upon a BSF convoy at Malpora Mirbazar in Kulgam district on the highway Thursday afternoon.
There was no injury, Mr Kumar said.
He said security forces immediately retaliated ensuing in an encounter.
Additional security forces joined Road Opening Party (ROP) already deployed in the area for the security of vehicles on the highway.
The operation was going on when the reports last came in, Mr Kumar said.
Official sources said traffic on the highway from both sides has been suspended as a precautionary measure.
They said there are two to three militants trapped in the area.
People in the area ran for safety and farmers who were in their field also rushed to their homes.
Senior security force officials were present in the area, sources said.
