Police Inspector Masroor Ahmad Wani Succumbs to Terrorist Attack Injuries

ISHTIYAQ AHMAD

Srinagar, Dec 07: In a tragic turn of events, Jammu and Kashmir’s police inspector, Masroor Ahmad Wani, who was targeted by terrorists while playing cricket in Eidgah on October 29, has passed away at Delhi AIIMS on Thursday.

“After being attacked by terrorists while playing cricket in Eidgah, the police inspector received medical care at SKIMS Soura. Unfortunately, despite being transferred to AIIMS New Delhi for specialized treatment, he succumbed to his injuries today,” stated an official source.

The officer, engaged in a friendly game of cricket with local boys at an Eidgah ground, became the victim of a trap by assailants.

Inspector Masroor Ahmad had sustained gunshot wounds to his lungs and head during the attack.

Since then the security forces including the Jammu and Kashmir police had launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident, aiming to identify and apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the attack.

Colleagues and superiors remember Inspector Wani as a brave and committed officer who served with distinction. His untimely demise has sent shockwaves through the police force and the local community.

The government has expressed its condolences, with senior officials extending sympathies to Inspector Wani’s family.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has already taken over the investigation into this ‘terrorist’ attack.

Sources in the NIA said that the agency is fully committed to unraveling the circumstances surrounding this cowardly act of terrorism. “We will leave no stone unturned to bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice. Our primary focus is to ensure that the culprits are identified, apprehended, and held accountable for their actions,” the NIA has said.

The NIA is collaborating closely with Jammu and Kashmir police and other law enforcement agencies and intelligence units to gather crucial evidence, analyze forensic findings, and pursue leads that could help identify and apprehend the ‘terrorists’ responsible for the attack.
