Srinagar, Dec 16: Director General of Police (DGP) R R Swain on Saturday said that the security forces are resolutely committed to silencing the last gun wielded by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, with the overarching goal of establishing enduring peace in the Valley.
Swain revealed that the local recruitment of terrorists has seen a substantial decrease, dropping to less than 20 this year, in stark contrast to the 100 recorded in 2022. Despite this positive trend, he acknowledged the persistent challenge posed by foreign terrorists.
The DGP outlined an ambitious strategic objective of achieving zero infiltration, zero terror recruitment, and zero arms smuggling, emphasizing the ongoing efforts in pursuit of these goals.
Speaking at a media address in Srinagar, Swain detailed the comprehensive approach being taken, encompassing plans to dismantle and degrade the terror ecosystem. This involves targeting various aspects, including recruitment, arms provision, infiltration, logistics support, and identifying potential targets for terrorists. While noting the progress made, he underscored the complexity of the task, stating that silencing the last gun would necessitate time.
Addressing concerns about potential infiltration attempts from Pakistan before winter snowfall obstructs passages, Swain reassured citizens of relentless efforts to counter such actions. He emphasized that law-abiding citizens need not fear, as the government is committed to achieving lasting peace, which would pave the way for improved infrastructure, education, health services, and economic activities.
In a proactive move, plans are underway to tackle the nexus between terrorism and corruption within the system. Swain presided over a public grievance redressal program, a key component of an initiative aimed at addressing community concerns. He urged public cooperation, underscoring the collective efforts required for sustained peace in the region.
