Turning Trash into Treasure Hiller Block in Anantnag set to launch Door-to-Door Waste Collection with innovative PPP Model

ANANTNAG, FEBRUARY 06: Hiller Block takes a giant leap towards a cleaner environment with the initiation of mass awareness regarding Door-to-Door waste collection. Under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, an authorized agency has been entrusted to collect, segregate, and treat waste.
The innovative approach involves a robust mechanism, including more than 70 community compost pits and over 10 Segregation Sheds and Rural Plastic Waste management units strategically positioned for efficient waste management.
Compost pits play a crucial role in proper composting, and at the individual level, additional pits have been constructed through MGNREGA.
Liquid waste management facilities, kitchen gardens, and soak pits, constructed through SBM (G) and MGNREGA, complement the waste management initiative. Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, S F Hamid has been actively overseeing the progress, ensuring timely support and review.
Forward linkage is established with a network connecting compost pits and Segregation Sheds. Waste, once properly segregated, will be directed to Compost units or Plastic Waste Management Centers for further processing. State-of-the-art machinery is in place to shred and bail plastic waste, contributing to both processing efficiency and revenue generation.
To ensure complete saturation of the block, ongoing efforts include the addition of compost pits, soakage pits, machinery, and vehicles. Specific user charges, approved through special Gram Sabhas, will be collected to sustain this environmentally conscious initiative.
