Chairman CEPC Embarks on 2-Day Exploration of Srinagar: Engages with Artisans and Exporters

Srinagar, April 23: Dr. Romesh Khajuria, Chairman of the Carpet Export Promotion Council (CEPC) and the Wool and Woollens Export Promotion Council (WWEPC) under the Union Ministry of Textiles, embarked on a two-day tour to Srinagar. During his visit, he held interactive sessions with manufacturers, exporters, and artisans involved in the carpet industry of Jammu and Kashmir.

Highlighting the pivotal role of Srinagar in the global market for handicrafts and luxury goods, Dr. Khajuria emphasized its rich cultural heritage and the exceptional skills of its artisans. He particularly commended the artisans of village Wailoo Kunzer of Tangmarg in north Kashmir for crafting the world’s largest hand-knotted silk carpet.

Dr. Khajuria extended his congratulations to the artisans behind this masterpiece and expressed confidence in its ability to attract buyers worldwide, thus recognizing and supporting their talent and dedication. Additionally, he visited M/S Carpets Creativity of Art in Idgah, Srinagar, where innovative Silk Pashmina Carpets are crafted.

In his address, Dr. Khajuria urged all stakeholders to collaborate closely to overcome challenges, seize opportunities, and propel the handmade carpet industry to new levels of excellence and prosperity.
