KPDCL Offers Enhanced Solar Roof Subsidy and Power Amnesty to Ease Domestic Consumer Burden

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 09:The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has introduced two significant initiatives aimed at reducing financial pressure on domestic consumers. These include a substantial enhancement to the PM Surya Ghar Scheme, which now offers up to 60% subsidy on solar rooftop installations, and an extension of the Power Amnesty Scheme, providing interest waivers on overdue payments.
Under the newly updated PM Surya Ghar Scheme, domestic consumers installing solar rooftops up to 3 kW are eligible for a subsidy of Rs. 94,800, an increase from the previous Rs. 85,800. This adjustment follows the recent approval of additional UT Government subsidies of Rs. 3,000 for 1 kW, Rs. 6,000 for 2 kW, and Rs. 9,000 for 3 kW installations. The total subsidy now covers a substantial portion of the project cost, which stands at Rs. 1.59 lakh. The UT Government has allocated Rs. 27.07 crore for 44,000 beneficiaries in Kashmir Division, with funds to be disbursed until March 2027.
Additionally, KPDCL is extending its Power Amnesty Scheme, which provides a waiver of late payment surcharges for consumers who settle their principal dues by March 31, 2025. To date, 1.05 lakh consumers have utilized this scheme, settling Rs. 150 crore in principal payments.
A KPDCL spokesperson highlighted the scheme’s benefits, including time-bound subsidy releases, a network of empanelled vendors, and online tracking of solar rooftop installations through the National Portal. With a target of 1,000 solar rooftops per month, KPDCL has appointed engineers to aid in the installation process and ensure timely reporting.
Consumers with outstanding electricity arrears are encouraged to take advantage of the Amnesty Scheme before its closure. KPDCL has been hosting Amnesty Camps across various Electric Divisions to assist consumers in settling their dues.
The spokesperson emphasized that the Amnesty Scheme will not be extended beyond the set deadline, urging remaining eligible consumers to act promptly to benefit from the scheme.
