Dr. Abid Reviews J&K’s Health Preparedness Amid Monkeypox Emergency

Srinagar, August 20:Secretary of Health & Medical Education, Dr. Syed Abid Rashid, conducted a comprehensive review of the preparedness of public health agencies across Jammu and Kashmir following the World Health Organization’s recent declaration of Monkeypox as a global emergency.
During the meeting, Dr. Abid urged all stakeholders to take proactive measures to ensure full readiness in handling potential situations. He instructed all Heads of Departments (HODs) to conduct mock drills statewide and provide training to health officials regarding logistics and transportation protocols.
He also directed the establishment of dedicated isolation wards at health facilities across J&K and emphasized the importance of activating testing, treatment, and contact tracing centers in case of an outbreak. Furthermore, HODs were tasked with reviewing stockpiles of essential consumables, disposables, and medications to ensure preparedness at the grassroots level.
The Managing Director of JKMSCL was instructed to enhance the supply and distribution of critical logistics such as testing kits, PPE, disposables, and medicines. All health institutions across the region were directed to maintain high vigilance for any potential emergencies.
