Jammu : NC and Rahul Baba say that we will bring back Article 370, but I want to tell them that neither you nor the three generations of yours will be able to bring back Article 370” stated Union home minister Amit Shah while launching an attack on the National Conference (NC) and Congress alliance over their demand for restoration of Article 370.
Addressing a public meeting in Jammu and Kashmir’s Chenani, the BJP leader said, “After independence, it is for the first time that an election is held here where there is no Article 370 or a separate flag.
His remarks came a day after the second phase of polling in Jammu and Kashmir. The Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir are being conducted after 10 years, and are the first after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
Voting for the third phase will take place on October 1 while the results will be declared on October 8.
The National Conference and the Congress entered into a pre-poll alliance for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. This partnership, finalised after months of intense negotiations, resulted in a seat-sharing arrangement, under which the National Conference is contesting on 51 seats and Congress on 32.
A few days back, NC president Farooq Abdullah said they will continue to knock at the Supreme Court’s door for the restoration of Article 370 as “it is linked with the honour of the people” of Jammu and Kashmir.
In his recent address in Poonch, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi emphasised the need for restoring Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. He said it is the foremost demand of the National Conference and the Congress to bring back statehood.
Separately, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha stated that the INDIA bloc will use its full force within Parliament and even hit the roads if the BJP-led government fails to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir after the ongoing Assembly polls.
