Srinagar, Oct 08 (KINS): Shagun Parihar, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) only female candidate in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, has won the Kishtwar seat, defeating veteran National Conference (NC) leader and former minister Sajad Ahmed Kitchloo by a narrow margin of 521 votes.
Parihar’s victory is especially poignant, as she lost both her father and uncle in a terror attack five years ago.
Expressing gratitude after her win, Parihar said, “I bow before the people of Kishtwar for their faith in me and my party. Their support is deeply appreciated, and I am humbled by their endorsement.” She also pledged to prioritize the safety and security of the region in her role as MLA, vowing to work for the well-being of her constituents.
Parihar’s victory is seen as a significant win for the BJP in Kishtwar, a district that has experienced both political and security challenges over the years.(KINS)
