New Government Faces Challenge of Bridging Political Divide in J&K: Dr. Karan Singh

Jammu , OCT 9 : Veteran political leader and former Member of Parliament, Dr. Karan Singh, lauded the successful and peaceful conduct of elections in Jammu and Kashmir, which took place for the first time in nearly a decade. In a statement issued today, Dr. Singh praised the Election Commission and security forces for ensuring a fair election process. However, he also highlighted the significant challenge ahead for the newly formed government in bridging the political divide between Jammu and Kashmir.

“The National Conference performed impressively in Kashmir, while the BJP dominated in Jammu. Yet, the BJP has no presence in Kashmir, and Congress has nearly no representation in Jammu,” Dr. Singh pointed out, referring to the stark regional political divide.

Congratulating Omar Abdullah, leader of the National Conference, for his upcoming role as Chief Minister, Dr. Singh stressed that the new government will face administrative challenges in uniting the two regions. He also urged the swift restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, in keeping with the Government of India’s commitment to the Supreme Court.

In addition, Dr. Singh called for the introduction of domiciliary provisions similar to those in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh regarding property acquisition, emphasizing the need for strong administrative discipline and anti-corruption measures as the state moves forward.

“It is my hope that the beautiful state, created by my ancestors, will enter a new era of harmony and development,” Dr. Singh said.
