New Delhi, Oct 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday emphasized the need for a comprehensive global digital framework, outlining clear guidelines for the ethical use of technology. Speaking at the inauguration of the International Telecommunication Union – WTSA and the India Mobile Congress, he likened the necessity of such a framework to that of the aviation industry, where the global community has set comprehensive rules and regulations.
Modi urged global institutions to collaborate in establishing a clear set of “dos and don’ts” for the digital world, with a focus on the ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI), ensuring security, dignity, and equity are prioritized.
Citing India’s advancements, the Prime Minister highlighted that after the rapid deployment of 5G services, most regions in the country now have access to 5G, and work on 6G has already commenced. He also noted India’s transformation over the past decade from a mobile phone importer to an exporter and emphasized the country’s extensive optic fiber network, which is eight times the distance from the Earth to the moon.
India’s digital vision, unveiled in 2014, rests on four pillars: affordable devices, widespread connectivity, cost-effective data, and a digital-first approach. Modi underscored how digital connectivity has become a key tool for last-mile delivery of services.
The Prime Minister concluded by expressing India’s willingness to share its experience in successfully building digital public infrastructure with the rest of the world
