PM Modi congratulates Omar Abdullah on becoming Jammu and Kashmir CM, vows to work closely for region’s progress

New Delhi, Oct 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday congratulated Omar Abdullah on being sworn in as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, marking the return of an elected government in the region after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.

National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah took the oath of office, becoming the first elected Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. This is his second term as chief minister, following his earlier tenure from 2009 to 2014 when Jammu and Kashmir was still a state.

In a message on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi expressed his best wishes, stating: “Congratulations to Shri Omar Abdullah Ji on taking oath as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. Wishing him the very best in his efforts to serve the people.” He added that the central government would collaborate closely with the new administration for the progress of Jammu and Kashmir.
