NEW DELHI, Oct 16: Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Praveen Vashista has been appointed as the new Special Secretary (Internal Security) in the Ministry of Home Affairs
A 1991-batch IPS officer from the Bihar cadre, Vashista currently holds the position of Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved a curtailment in Vashista’s tenure as Additional Secretary, appointing him as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Home Ministry until December 31, 2024, “as a special case and not to be quoted as a precedent,” according to an order from the Personnel Ministry
He is set to assume the role of Special Secretary (Internal Security) following the retirement of incumbent Sivagami Sundari Nanda on December 31, 2024.
Vashista’s tenure in the new position will extend until July 31, 2026
The Internal Security division of the MHA is crucial, handling matters related to police, law and order, administrative and financial issues concerning the Intelligence Bureau (IB), and analyzing threats from terrorists and Maoists, among other responsibilities.
