Tabindah Gani’s Family to Appeal High Court’s Decision Reducing Death Sentences of Convicts

Srinagar , Oct 20 : Following the recent ruling by the High Court of Srinagar, which reduced the death sentences of the four men convicted in the 2007 assault and murder of Tabindah Gani to 25 years of imprisonment, her family has expressed dissatisfaction with the decision. On Sunday, they announced their intention to appeal the ruling in the Supreme Court to seek justice for their daughter.

In July 2007, Tabindah, a Class 8 student from Handwara, Kashmir, was brutally attacked by four men while returning home from school. The horrific crime ignited widespread protests across the valley, as the public reacted with outrage and sorrow.

The four convicted men—Sadiq Mir alias Saeda Choor, Azhar Mir alias Billa, both residents of Langate, along with Jahangir Ansari from West Bengal and Suresh Kumar from Rajasthan—were initially sentenced to death by the Kupwara District Court on April 24, 2015.
