New Delhi, Oct 21: Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the ongoing fight against terrorism, infiltration, and religious tension conspiracies, despite relative peace being established in regions like Jammu and Kashmir, the Northeast, and Naxal-affected areas.
During his address on Police Commemoration Day, Shah paid tribute to the 36,438 police personnel who have sacrificed their lives since independence for the country’s safety, including 216 in the past year. He assured the families of martyrs that their sacrifices would not go in vain and reaffirmed that India would achieve its goal of becoming a fully developed nation by 2047.
Shah also highlighted the introduction of three new criminal laws aimed at modernizing India’s criminal justice system, ensuring that full justice, even at the Supreme Court level, could be delivered within three years of filing an FIR. He added that infrastructure work for these laws began five years ago, with completion expected within three more years.
The home minister outlined initiatives for police welfare, including healthcare for personnel and their families under the Ayushman CAPF scheme, and approval for constructing 13,000 houses, with 11,276 slated for completion by March next year.
Shah paid tribute to all fallen police officers at the National Police Memorial, marking October 21, Police Commemoration Day, a date observed annually since 1959 to honor policemen ambushed by Chinese troops in Ladakh.
