UDHAMPUR, Oct 25 ( KINS) : Peace, prosperity, and improved security in Jammu and Kashmir stem from the combined efforts of the Army and various agencies, according to Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General M V Suchindra Kumar. Speaking to media during an interaction at Dhruv Auditorium, he addressed the recent rise in terrorist attacks in Kashmir, noting that a strategy was discussed at a Unified Headquarters meeting in Srinagar, though he did not disclose specifics.
The focus, he emphasized, is on breaking the cycle of violence, dismantling the terror ecosystem, and empowering youth and women through education and sports while reviving the region’s rich historical and cultural heritage. He highlighted the importance of fostering strong relationships between citizens and soldiers and promoting nationalist narratives, especially among the youth.
Over the past five years, security forces have neutralized 720 terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, with current residual terrorist numbers estimated between 120 and 130. He pointed out that recruitment figures have dropped to single digits, the lowest level observed.
General Kumar explained that the anti-infiltration grid along the Line of Control, coupled with focused counter-terrorism operations, has helped create a peaceful environment in the Union Territory. He noted that adversaries are becoming frustrated due to the successes of security forces, who have foiled numerous infiltration attempts aimed at instilling fear among the local population.
He reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to maintaining a secure environment for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, stating, “Our endeavors in kinetic and non-kinetic operations have facilitated greater security.”
Regarding the security situation in the Jammu region, he mentioned that various agencies are actively working to achieve desired outcomes. The establishment of Village Defence Groups (VDGs), with over 600 groups and 10,000 modern weapons provided, is part of strengthening security in remote areas.
General Kumar concluded by reiterating the significance of integrated military and social outreach efforts in contributing to nation-building.( KINS)
