Srinagar, Nov 12 (KINS): Kargil Police has finally solved a harrowing 26-year-old quadruple murder case that has haunted investigators since 1998.
Police said that the case dates back to October 7, 1998, when Bashir Ahmad from Tangole reported that his brother, Mohd Ali, along with three companions—Haji Anayat Ali from Karghi, Shero Ali from Kathua, and Nazir Ahmad—had gone missing after traveling to Wardwan to purchase livestock.
“Initial efforts to locate the men saw a group of suspects detained on April 25, 1999, in Khati Talab, Jammu. However, a lack of conclusive evidence led to their release on bail, and the investigation stalled”. The case was eventually closed in 2007 as untraced.
News agency KINS reported that years later, a significant development occurred in September 2011, when skeletal remains were discovered near Kanital Glacier. DNA tests confirmed that the remains belonged to Nazir Ahmad and Shero Ali, reviving interest in the cold case.
A court order in 2012 officially reopened the investigation, prompting renewed efforts to pursue justice.
After over a decade of extensive investigative work, Kargil Police finally tracked down and apprehended the suspects in Hira Nagar, Kathua.
Under the leadership of SHO Inspector Manzoor Hussain, the police team meticulously pieced together the suspects’ movements using credible sources and mobile tracking techniques.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crimes and led the authorities through the rugged terrain to the crime scene.(KINS)
