Srinagar, Nov 22 (KINS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Friday said that a cabinet subcommittee will review the reservation policy in Jammu and Kashmir.
The decision comes in response to growing concerns from various sections of society, including youth from the open category who feel their rights are being compromised, as well as individuals benefiting from reservations who fear losing their entitlements.
“The subcommittee, comprising three senior ministers, has been tasked with taking a comprehensive view of the matter. They will examine past developments, Supreme Court directives on reservations, and the current implementation process. Their mandate is to ensure justice for all while safeguarding the rights of every group. The subcommittee will present its findings and recommendations to the cabinet within a stipulated time frame,” Omar Abdullah said while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function, as reported by news agency KINS.
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of balancing equity and inclusivity. “We aim to ensure that no one’s rights are violated while delivering justice to all,” he added.
Abdullah also talked about issues related to security, policing, and verification processes in Jammu and Kashmir. He assured that the government would review policies to address concerns about harassment and reiterated efforts to restore statehood to the region.
Additionally, the Chief Minister highlighted preparations for the upcoming winter, including discussions with the central government to secure an additional power quota to meet the increased electricity demand during the colder months. (KINS)
