Srinagar, Nov 25 (KINS): As the Valley is recording increase in the respiratory illness among children, elderly and people with comorbidities, noted pulmonologist Dr. Naved Nazir urged the public to adopt preventive measures, particularly for vulnerable populations such as children, elderly, and individuals with comorbidities.
Dr. Nazir said that the respiratory diseases, including viral infections, asthma exacerbations and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), are on the rise across Kashmir due to seasonal changes, increasing pollution levels and compromised immunity among high risk groups.
“The importance of early diagnosis, timely treatment, and adherence to prescribed medications to avoid complications,” he said.
To mitigate risks, Dr. Nazir recommended maintaining good respiratory hygiene, such as wearing masks in crowded areas, avoiding exposure to pollutants and ensuring proper ventilation at home.
He also highlighted the role of a balanced diet, regular exercise, and adequate hydration in boosting immunity. Vaccinations, particularly against influenza and pneumonia, were strongly advised for high-risk groups.
Dr. Nazir called on healthcare providers and policymakers to enhance public awareness and ensure access to preventive and therapeutic healthcare resources, aiming to curb the growing burden of respiratory ailments. Admitting that children are more vulnerable, he urged the parents not to allow their kids play during morning and evening hours when temperatures are cold—(KINS)
