New Delhi Dec 16 (KINS): In response to a question by National Conference MP Aga Syed Rahullah regarding India’s stance on the ongoing Palestine crisis, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the India advocates establishment of a sovereign Palestine living peacefully alongside Israel.
In a written reply, the India says it reiterated its call for a ceasefire, release of hostages, and a peaceful resolution of the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy.
“The government emphasized India’s proactive engagement, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar holding discussions with global leaders, including counterparts from Israel and Palestine. On the sidelines of the Summit of the Future in New York on September 22, 2024, Prime Minister Modi met with Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas and reaffirmed India’s commitment to peace in the region,” the MEA said, according to news agency KINS.
Highlighting India’s humanitarian efforts, the MEA revealed that the country has provided approximately 70 metric tonnes of aid to Gaza since the onset of the crisis.
“This includes 16.5 tonnes of medicines and medical supplies in two tranches. India has also contributed $10 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) over the past two years and recently dispatched 65 tonnes of medical supplies to the Palestine Ministry of Health and UNRWA.”
“India condemned the terror attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023, while expressing concern over civilian casualties on both sides. Upholding its longstanding policy, India continues to support a negotiated two-state solution, advocating for the establishment of a sovereign and viable Palestine living peacefully alongside Israel. India supports Palestine membership in the UN,” the reply reads. (KINS)
