Kupwara Police’s major crackdown on drug trafficking: 108 NDPS cases registered, 101 arrested, says SSP Jeelani

KINS DESK
Srinagar, Dec 18 (KINS): Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Kupwara district Ghulam Jeelani Wednesday said that they have registered a total of 108 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act this year so far.
This crackdown has led to the arrest of 101 individuals, highlighting the authorities’ firm stance against drug trafficking and abuse in the area.
Addressing the press conference, the SSP Kupwara as per news gathering agency KINS said: “Our primary objective is to make Kupwara a drug-free district, and this operation is a step in the right direction. We are determined to break the chains of illegal drug networks that continue to harm our society.”
The operations have not only led to a substantial number of arrests but also resulted in the booking of 14 individuals under various provisions of the NDPS Act. As part of the ongoing efforts to curb the drug menace, the Kupwara police have seized five properties linked to drug trafficking operations, further disrupting illegal trade in the area.
In a notable achievement, the police team was recognized for securing a conviction in a high-profile NDPS case, Case FIR No. 56/2019, under Sections 8/21 and 29 of the NDPS Act. “Securing convictions is a key component in our battle against drugs. We are not only targeting the suppliers but also the network that facilitates this illegal trade,” said the SSP.
“We will not rest until we have rid our community of this threat,” he added (KINS)
