Srinagar, Jan 04 (KINS):Dr. Abhijeet Jasrotia strongly criticized the National Conference (NC) and Indian National Congress (INC) for what he said ‘undermining democratic principles within their organizational structures and leadership”.
Dr. Abhijeet Jasrotia, Spokesperson of J&K BJP, along with Dr. Pradeep Mahotra, Media Incharge of J&K BJP, said while addressing a press conference at the BJP Headquarters in Jammu today, as per BJP statement.
He contrasted their approach with the BJP’s commitment to true democracy, reflected in its ongoing Sangathan Parv initiative.
Dr. Jasrotia remarked that “NC and INC do not truly believe in democracy, using the term only as a tool to mislead the masses and retain control over power corridors. He pointed out that both parties misuse democracy to consolidate dynastic and elitist control, sidelining the people and their voices.
To illustrate his point, Dr. Jasrotia referred to a historical example of undemocratic decision-making within Congress. He cited the 1946 Congress Working Committee (CWC) elections, where Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel received 12 votes, and Jawaharlal Nehru received only one. Despite this, Nehru was chosen as India’s first Prime Minister, ignoring the democratic mandate. “This set a precedent for a system of selected leadership rather than elected leadership within Congress,” he explained.
Dr. Jasrotia also accused the NC of following similar undemocratic practices in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly through dynastic politics, which has alienated grassroots workers. He stated, “Both NC and INC have betrayed the true democratic spirit by sidelining grassroots voices in favor of family-based and elitist agendas.”
In contrast, Dr. Jasrotia praised the BJP’s Sangathan Parv as an example of true democracy. He elaborated on how the party’s internal elections begin at the booth level and ascend through the mandal, district, and state levels, eventually leading to the election of the national president. “This process ensures that leadership reflects the will of party workers and the grassroots,” he affirmed.
Dr. Jasrotia also addressed the recent controversy over Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s bag incident, calling it a biased and manufactured narrative designed to distract from more pressing political issues. He urged the media to remain objective and focus on substantial matters that affect the people.
The press conference concluded with Dr. Jasrotia urging the people of Jammu and Kashmir to reject the outdated and undemocratic practices of NC and INC and embrace a new era of participatory politics under the BJP.(KINS)
