Jammu, Jan 10 (KINS): The city of Jammu has come alive with the vibrant celebrations of Lohri, marking the start of the traditional harvest festival.

As the bonfires are lit and the air fills with the aroma of roasted peanuts and rewari, the festive spirit is palpable among the people.

Lohri, celebrated with much fervor in northern India, symbolizes the end of winter and the beginning of longer days.

News agency KINS reported that in Jammu, the festival holds a special place in the hearts of locals, uniting communities in joyous camaraderie. Families and friends gather around the bonfire, offering prayers and seeking blessings for prosperity and happiness.

Markets across Jammu are bustling with activity, adorned with colorful decorations and stalls selling traditional items such as popcorn, jaggery, and til (sesame). Cultural programs, folk music, and dance performances have been organized in various parts of the city, adding to the festive cheer.

Local community leaders and organizations have also arranged special events to promote the essence of Lohri. Schools and colleges are hosting celebrations to teach younger generations about the cultural significance of the festival.

“This is the time of year when we come together as a community to celebrate our heritage and express gratitude for the harvest,” said Rajinder Sharma, a resident of Gandhi Nagar.

With the bonfires symbolizing new beginnings and the songs echoing the tales of Punjabi folklore, Lohri celebrations in Jammu serve as a reminder of the region’s rich cultural traditions. As the festivities continue, the city is set to bask in the warmth of joy and unity.

The celebrations are expected to peak from tomorrow as families and communities come together, spreading the message of love and harmony, lighting up the winter night with their festive zeal.(KINS)
