Iltija Mufti slams administration over Kathua killings

Srinagar, Mar 10 (KINS): PDP leader Iltija Mufti has strongly criticized the administration over the recent killings of three civilians in Kathua district and the alleged selective restrictions imposed on opposition leaders.

Addressing the media, Iltija accused the authorities of barring her from visiting the victims’ families in Billawar while allowing BJP leaders unrestricted access.

“I wanted to visit Billawar to offer condolences to the families of the three civilians who were killed, but the police stopped me. Meanwhile, BJP leaders like Sunil Sharma face no such restrictions. Why this double standard?” she questioned.

The three victims—Yogesh (32), Darshan (40), and Varun (14), reportedly cousins—were found dead in the Inchhu forests of Kathua’s Malhar area on Saturday evening. A police officer confirmed their identities but refrained from disclosing further details.

Iltija also raised concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in Kathua, alleging increasing instances of youth being detained under stringent laws. “The atmosphere in Kathua is tense. Communal tensions are rising, and young boys are being picked up under PSA and UAPA. Who is accountable for law and order in Kathua and Billawar?” she asked.

Demanding an immediate inquiry, she urged the Lieutenant Governor and the Director General of Police to act swiftly. “I appeal to the LG and DGP to ensure a fair and speedy investigation. We were not even allowed to meet the 14-year-old victim’s family in Billawar,” she said.

Iltija also took a swipe at the administration over the recent controversy surrounding the Gulmarg fashion show, questioning how such an event was allowed to take place without official oversight. “Tourism falls under the Chief Minister’s domain. How did he allow this? How was he unaware? Reports even suggest open alcohol consumption at the event,” she alleged.

She further held the National Conference-led government responsible for negligence. “All of this is happening right under their nose. How can they claim ignorance?” she added.(KINS)
