Priya Sethi urges NCW to continue services in J&K until Women’s commission is established
Jammu, Mar 17 (KINS): Senior BJP leader and former Minister Priya Sethi met with a deputation of Coordinators and Social Workers associated with the National Commission for Women (NCW), who voiced their concerns over the discontinuation of NCW services in Jammu & Kashmir.
The deputation informed Sethi that the NCW had appointed 40 Social Workers and two Coordinators in each district of J&K to address women’s issues. However, following the reorganization of J&K in 2019, the NCW ceased its operations, citing the eventual establishment of a state-run Women’s Commission. Nearly five years later, the commission has yet to be formed, leaving a critical void in women’s welfare and justice mechanisms.
The deputation highlighted their pivotal role in assisting distressed women through One-Stop Sakhi Centres and district-level offices at police stations, providing counseling and support. They revealed that over 3,000 cases have been successfully resolved through these centers. However, with the NCW setting March 31, 2025, as the deadline for their remuneration, their future remains uncertain.
Priya Sethi acknowledged their contributions, emphasizing the urgent need for continued intervention in women’s issues. She urged the NCW to extend its services in J&K until the state government formally establishes the Women’s Commission, ensuring that women’s grievances do not go unheard.(KINS)
