Army Chief to review J&K security post-Pahalgam attack; India tightens stand on Pakistan
Srinagar, Apr 24 (KINS): In the wake of the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 civilians, Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi will arrive in Srinagar on Friday to conduct a high-level review of the security situation across Jammu and Kashmir.
Top Army commanders stationed in the region are scheduled to brief the Army Chief on the current security dynamics and counter-insurgency operations, according to military sources.
The visit comes amid heightened tensions and a strong diplomatic response from New Delhi. On Wednesday, India downgraded diplomatic relations with Pakistan, expelling Pakistani military attachés and suspending the decades-old Indus Waters Treaty of 1960. Additionally, the Attari land-transit point was ordered to be shut down with immediate effect.
These decisive measures were finalized during a high-level meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, following intelligence reports linking the Pahalgam massacre to elements operating across the border.(KINS)
