Rain likely across J&K in coming days
Srinagar, June 16 (KINS): Jammu and Kashmir is expected to witness a spell of wet weather in the coming days, as per the latest forecast issued by the Meteorological Department.
The MeT has predicted brief spells of rain and thundershowers, accompanied by gusty winds, at isolated to scattered places across the Union Territory till June 20. Weather activity is expected to intensify between June 21 and 23, with widespread cloud cover and more frequent showers likely in several areas.
In the past 24 hours, the Jammu region experienced light to moderate rainfall along with thunder and strong winds. Jammu city recorded 46.0 mm of rainfall during this period, indicating the onset of pre-monsoon activity in the region.
Despite the rains, both day and night temperatures have remained above normal. Most parts of the Kashmir Valley recorded maximum temperatures 2 to 3 degrees Celsius above average, while the Jammu region saw a rise of 1 to 3 degrees Celsius above the seasonal norm.
Night temperatures also stayed unusually high. In Kashmir, minimum temperatures were 1 to 6 degrees Celsius above average, and in Jammu, many areas reported night temperatures 1 to 5 degrees above normal.
The lowest temperatures were recorded in Gulmarg at 11.6°C and Banihal at 15.6°C.
Authorities have advised the public to stay updated with weather alerts and take necessary precautions, especially during the period of heightened activity later this week.(KINS)
