Srinagar, June 18 (KINS): In preparation for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, security forces will set up additional checkpoints across Jammu and Kashmir to strengthen safety measures for pilgrims.
The 38-day yatra to the holy Amarnath cave shrine, located at an altitude of 3,880 metres in south Kashmir, will begin on July 3. Pilgrims can take either the traditional 48-kilometre Pahalgam route in Anantnag or the shorter but steeper 14-kilometre Baltal route in Ganderbal. The first group of pilgrims is scheduled to leave from Jammu’s Bhagwati Nagar base camp on July 2.
All officers have been instructed to strengthen existing nakas (checkpoints), especially at night, and identify more locations where additional nakas can be set up for the safety of yatris,” a top police official told KINS.
A massive deployment of 600 paramilitary companies is being executed across the Yatra route, alongside active coordination with the Jammu and Kashmir Police and Indian Army.
The administration is determined to ensure that the Amarnath Yatra 2025 remains peaceful and spiritually enriching.
Pilgrims are expected to start arriving by late June, with the yatra officially commencing in early July.(KINS)
