Srinagar, Aug 11 (KINS): Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Vidhi Kumar Birdi, said on Monday that strict multi-layered security measures have been put in place to ensure peaceful Independence Day celebrations across the Valley.
Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Birdi as per news agency KINS said that the Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with paramilitary forces, have been deployed in large numbers to provide complete security for the August 15 events. He added that rehearsal drills for the main function are already in progress.
“Several layers of security have been arranged so the celebrations go smoothly without any trouble,” the IGP said.
A few days ago, Birdi held a security review meeting at the Police Control Room in Kashmir, where he directed officers to strengthen checkpoints, especially at night, and keep close watch on sensitive areas and city entry and exit points. He also emphasised the need for extra alertness to prevent any attempts to disturb peace.(KINS)
