Centre to install 4 new weather radars in J&K for accurate forecasts; Dr Jitendra Singh reviews flood-hit districts
Srinagar, Sept 04 (KINS): Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh on Thursday said that the Government of India will install four additional weather radars in Jammu and Kashmir under “Mission Mausam” to provide more precise, district-wise forecasts and early warnings. Three such radars are already operational in the region.
Chairing a high-level review meeting with divisional and district officials of Jammu, the Minister directed the IMD and Ministry of Earth Sciences to issue dedicated forecasts for weather-affected regions of J&K, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Punjab. He stressed on round-the-clock monitoring to minimize losses through early alerts and better preparedness.
Dr. Singh, who also represents Udhampur in Parliament, lauded the relentless efforts of district administrations in saving lives, restoring roads, and providing rations, medicines, and shelter. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is personally monitoring the situation, while Home Minister Amit Shah has formed an inter-ministerial panel to assess damages.
Highlighting relief efforts, Dr. Singh said special focus has been laid on providing safe drinking water, medical kits, and ration supplies. “Two additional consignments of food packets, water filters, and medicines are being dispatched from my own MP funds to ensure no family feels unattended,” he said.
District officials briefed the Minister on the extent of damage: hundreds of roads and water supply schemes have been hit, dozens of relief camps established, and thousands of people evacuated. Despite the challenges, major connectivity and essential services have been restored in most areas.
Praising the response, Dr. Singh said, “The courage shown by district administrations, civil society groups, and even local bikers—who acted as first responders—demonstrates the true spirit of teamwork and resilience.”(KINS)
