Srinagar, Sep 09 (KINS): Jammu and Kashmir BJP President Sat Sharma on Tuesday stressed the importance of respecting all individuals and faiths, while reacting to the recent controversy surrounding the arrest of MLA Doda, Mehraj Malik.
Malik was arrested and booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA) after allegedly using unparliamentary language against Deputy Commissioner Doda, a move that has triggered sharp political reactions.
Speaking to reporters according to news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS), Sharma said, “I won’t comment on whether it was right or wrong to arrest Mehraj Malik. The government is looking into the matter. But the question remains—is it right to abuse anyone? Those who swear by the Constitution must abide by it.”
He further underlined that the essence of India’s democratic framework and cultural ethos lies in mutual respect. “All religions teach us to respect each other. No faith permits disrespect or abuse,” Sharma added.
The BJP leader’s remarks come at a time when opposition parties have criticized Malik’s detention, calling it an attack on democratic rights. (KINS)
