Srinagar, Sept 27 (KINS): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has summoned the autumn session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly for October 23 in Srinagar, setting the stage for a charged debate as the government completes its first year in office.
The decision follows a cabinet recommendation by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who had initially suggested October 13 as the start date. Officials said the later date allows legislators more time to submit questions to the Assembly Secretariat.
According to the official notification as per news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS), the session will begin at 10 am and marks the third sitting of the Omar Abdullah-led government.
The last full session was held in Jammu during March–April, while a special sitting in July condemned the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. Rules mandate that no more than six months lapse between two sittings of the legislature.
The opposition, particularly the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is expected to confront the government over its performance.
Meanwhile, the Legislative Assembly Secretariat has issued guidelines for the session, allowing each MLA to submit 10 questions—five starred and five unstarred—along with two resolutions and one bill. The deadlines are October 4 for questions and bills, and October 7 for resolutions.
With the ruling party facing growing criticism, the October 23 session is expected to witness intense exchanges between the treasury and opposition benches.(KINS)
