Srinagar, Sep 29 (KINS): J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra on Monday chaired a meeting of Coordinators and District Congress Committee (DCC) Presidents of Kashmir province at the Srinagar Party office to discuss upcoming organizational activities and strategies for public engagement.
During the meeting, Karra announced that the JKPCC will launch a mass signature campaign across Jammu and Kashmir against alleged “vote theft orchestrated through collusion between the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the BJP”.
The campaign aims to raise public awareness about what the party termed “undemocratic and immoral measures” by the ruling dispensation to manipulate elections for political gain.
“Vote theft poses a serious threat to India’s democratic framework, which the Congress will actively fight to safeguard. Since the BJP assumed power at the Centre, democracy has come under assault through systematic erosion of institutions,” Karra said.
Highlighting the role of ECI, he added, “The irony is that the ECI, an autonomous body responsible for free and fair elections, appears to be shielding and encouraging vote manipulation to benefit the ruling party, which has grave consequences for Indian democracy.”
“The signature campaign is designed to mobilize public support for the ongoing struggle led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi against electoral manipulation.”
Karra emphasized that the fight for accountability in elections will continue until vote fraud is stopped.
The meeting also focused on strengthening public outreach programmes for the restoration of Statehood in Jammu and Kashmir. Karra urged party leaders to intensify their engagement with citizens in their respective districts to build momentum for the cause.
Among those present were MLAs Nizam Ud Din Bhat and Irfan Hafeez Lone, former MLAs Bashir Ahmad Magray and Abdul Rahim Rather, party leaders Abdul Gani Khan, Nissar Ahmad Mundo, GSO Abid Ahmad Bhat, Media Coordinator Adil Farooq Mir, Suhail Bukhari, and DCC Presidents including Irfan Naqib, Zaffar Farooq Salati, Abdul Rashid Lone, Mir Iqbal, Umer Jaan Sheikh, Er.
