Srinagar, Oct 12 (KINS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday announced three candidates for the upcoming elections to four Rajya Sabha seats from Jammu and Kashmir, scheduled for October 24.
The party has nominated its Jammu and Kashmir unit president Sat Pal Sharma, along with Dr Ali Mohammed Mir and Rakesh Mahajan, as approved by the BJP Central Election Committee.
The Election Commission has issued three separate notifications for the polls to the four seats. Based on the current assembly composition, the National Conference-Congress alliance holds an advantage on three seats, while the BJP is comfortably placed on one.
However, the BJP’s move to field candidates across all seats has set the stage for a keen political contest. The party is expected to launch an intensive outreach to seek support from MLAs of other parties in an effort to boost its prospects.
Earlier, on Friday, the National Conference had announced its three nominees for the Rajya Sabha elections and confirmed that discussions were ongoing with the Congress regarding the fourth seat.(KINS)
