Omar Abdullah urges non-political approach to flood relief allocation

Srinagar, Oct 27 (KINS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said that relief and rehabilitation for flood-affected families should not become a subject of political controversy.

Speaking in the Legislative Assembly, Omar Abdullah said that the government would follow the same mechanism used for providing land to landless families while extending support to those recently affected by floods.

“There is a scheme to provide land to landless people. The same will be followed for the recently suffered flood victims as we already announced 5 malras land to a flood victim family. Government of India also sent a team and we made an assessment,” Omar said, according to news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).

He added that the recent floods caused more damage in Jammu region compared to the 2014 deluge in Kashmir. “Relief will be provided as per the damages. We are also sending a report to the Centre and we hope they provide a package for flood victims. There should be no politics over this issue,” the Chief Minister said. (KINS)
