Chaos erupts in Assembly over flood victims issue
KINS Correspondent
Srinagar, Oct 30 (KINS): The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Thursday witnessed chaos after Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather disallowed an adjournment motion moved by BJP legislators to discuss the plight of flood victims during Question Hour.

As soon as the House began its proceedings, BJP MLAs stood up and demanded that the issue of flood victims be taken up immediately, moving an adjournment motion to suspend the Question Hour. However, the Speaker turned down the request, saying the matter could be discussed during Zero Hour.

Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma accused the government of being indifferent towards flood victims. “Flood victims are facing immense hardship. This is the biggest issue right now. Why has the adjournment motion been disallowed?” Sharma asked, according to news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).

The Speaker maintained that the issue could be discussed after the Question Hour. His remarks triggered uproar in the House, with BJP legislators shouting slogans against the government. The National Conference (NC) members retaliated with counter-slogans, shouting “Choor machiye shoor” at the BJP MLAs.

The situation turned chaotic as both ruling and opposition members exchanged heated words and slogans. The BJP legislators also alleged irregularities in the Public Works Department (PWD).

Chaotic scenes were continuing in the House when this report was filed. (KINS)
