Srinagar, Oct 30 (KINS): Ganderbal Police has arrested two absconders who had been evading the law for over a decade.
Police said the arrests were made as part of a special campaign launched to trace and apprehend long-time fugitives involved in various criminal cases registered in the district.
Speaking to reporters, SSP Ganderbal, Khalil Ahmad Poswal as per news agency KINS said that the police had initiated a comprehensive drive to track down absconders who had been on the run for the past 10, 20, or even 30 years in different cases.
“We have traced 22 absconders so far. Dedicated teams were formed at the district level and at the Union Territory level to ensure success,” he said.
He highlighted the efforts of the SHO Safapora, and his team, who traced one of the absconders, Mudassar Ahamd War, a resident of Sopore. War had been wanted since 2013 in a case involving the stabbing of a shopkeeper. After years of evading the police, he was finally apprehended from Bengaluru, Karnataka, and will be produced before the court.
In another operation, a team from Maharashtra successfully located and arrested another absconder, Mustaq Ahmad Wani, a resident of Kunzar, Baramulla. He was wanted in a 2013 case registered in Safapora and had settled in a new location under a different identity.
Terming these arrests as major achievements, the SSP said that the Ganderbal Police remain committed to ensuring that no offender escapes the reach of law, no matter how long they have been absconding or where they have fled.(KINS)
