Srinagar, Oct 30 (KINS): Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, on Thursday said the House was deeply concerned about the plight of flood victims and assured that the issue would be thoroughly discussed.
As the Assembly proceedings began during the Question Hour, BJP legislators moved an adjournment motion seeking an immediate discussion on the condition of flood victims. However, the Speaker disallowed the motion, stating that the issue could be taken up later during the Zero Hour.
The decision triggered uproar in the House, with BJP MLAs creating chaos and accusing the Speaker of being indifferent towards the flood-affected people.
Later, during the Zero Hour, Speaker Rather allowed a discussion on the matter and clarified his stance.
According to news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS), the Speaker said BJP legislator Pawan Gupta’s adjournment motion was not admitted because the issue had already been scheduled for discussion.
“This was not because the House was unconcerned about the flood victims. The issue was already listed for discussion. My concern was that Question Hour cannot be adjourned, but the matter can be taken up during Zero Hour. I also admitted several questions related to floods, which the government has responded to in detail,” Rather said.
He reiterated that the entire House was pained over the plight of the flood victims and assured that their concerns would be duly addressed. (KINS)
