Jammu, Nov 3 (KINS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday reached the Civil Secretariat in Jammu as the annual Darbar Move officially opened in the winter capital, marking the return of the historic practice that symbolizes the administrative and cultural linkage between the two regions of Jammu and Kashmir.
As the Chief Minister arrived from his residence, shopkeepers and locals of Jammu warmly welcomed him with flowers and greetings, expressing joy over the revival of the century-old tradition. The Secretariat premises and surrounding areas according to news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS)wore a festive look, with tightened security arrangements in place.
Recently, the Chief Minister had reviewed the arrangements for the Darbar Move, ensuring smooth functioning of government offices in Jammu for the winter months.
The reopening of the Darbar in Jammu has been widely welcomed by traders, hoteliers, and residents, who say the move will revive the region’s winter economy and strengthen inter-regional ties.
The centuries-old biannual practice—where the government functions from Srinagar in summer and Jammu in winter—was restored after years of suspension, drawing appreciation from various quarters for keeping alive a key symbol of unity and administrative balance in Jammu and Kashmir. (KINS)
